About Us
Meet the Team
Let's Play VB was created by two brothers (not twins, contrary to popular belief!):
Josiah Wilson
- Mechanical Engineering student at Notre Dame.
- Avid volleyball player.
- Played men's volleyball at Bethel University for 2 years, and currently plays for the Notre Dame club volleyball team.
Gabriel Wilson
- Computer Science student at Indiana University South Bend.
- Avid programmer and developer.
- Fluent in multiple programming languages and has experience in app development, website development, and game design.
Why We Made It
Our family has 9 total siblings, and at least 7 of us are currently playing or have played organized volleyball, and the other 2 (and both parents) play recreationally. Needless to say, volleyball is pretty important around the Wilson house!
At some point, the older siblings discovered that there was a whole community of local volleyball leagues and tournaments in the area for both casual and competitive players. Over time, we gradually started finding out about more and more of these tournaments, and it became quite a dense network of resources - albeit a very disorganized and chaotic one.
One day, Daniel (one of the younger brothers) started itching to play more tournaments, but up till now, he had only been playing with his older siblings, and he wanted to be able to play even if the siblings were busy. So naturally, he texted Josiah (who had been playing tournaments every weekend for the past two summers, but was too busy to play anything at the time), and said, “Any volleyball tournaments coming up? Also, where would I go to find those by myself?”
Josiah, who was at work at the time, saw the text and felt conflicted. That was a good question... Where could he go? At the time, Josiah was finding his information from 5 different Facebook groups, a couple of email lists, direct texts from several tournament organizers, and a significant amount of word-of-mouth through the community grapevine.
This method wasn't so bad for someone who had been playing in the area for years, but for people who (1) didn't have as many social connections, (2) were new to the community, (3) were outsiders, or (4) didn't use social media/not savvy with technology... there was nothing!
So, after mulling over the problem for a bit, Josiah had an “Aha!” moment and climbed out of the machine he was working in, told his coworkers he needed to take an early break, and called Gabe (the family computer wizard) to pitch a project.
And now here we are! After a few months in the lab, we're excited to launch Let's Play Volleyball - to help you spend less time looking for the court, and more time on it!
Our Goal
We want to make LPVB a website that consolidates and organizes local volleyball tournaments, leagues, and open gyms so that players can easily find ways to play the game they love!
We want to:
- Help you find as many tournaments as humanly possible.
- Keep the registration process simple and convenient.
- Make it easy to plan ahead and fit future tourneys into your schedule.
- Get you out on the court!
